In 1997, Beckley Area Foundation became the successor trustee for the William M. Harnsbarger Trust which was to provide scholarships to Mount Hope High School students who had been active participants in basketball or football there. As Mount Hope HS no longer exists Oak Hill High School is the recipient school. Established with a testamentary gift initially held by the Huntington National Bank in Morgantown, WV it was transferred to BAF when the bank ceased to have a trust department.This fund was started by Mr. Harnsbarger, now deceased, to provide scholarship support for Oak Hill High School basketball and football graduates attending college.
