How to apply...

The Beckley Area Foundation provides oversight for 190 scholarship funds established by individuals, firms
and organizations wishing to assist students in furthering their education.  While the majority of scholarships
benefit Raleigh County applicants there are others designated for Fayette, Summers, Webster, and Wyoming students. 
 
  • BAF’s application process uses a ‘universal approach’ allowing the applicant to be directed to multiple scholarship opportunities, for which they are eligible, while completing only one common application.
  • Following the creation of an account you will click the Apply button for the Universe, then complete the application’s common questions.
  • The next page will be a confirmation message identifying the scholarship opportunities for which you are eligible to apply, and which scholarships require answering supplemental questions. 
  • You will need to review your additional scholarship opportunities, then select and complete supplemental questions for the Opportunities you have chosen to pursue.
 
Hints for Applying

  1. Deadlines matter — plan to meet early deadlines, if applicable.
  2. Don’t delay in  filing  the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)! 
  3. Complete all questions accurately.
  4. Remember to upload required supplemental documents.
  5. Retain a copy of all documents for your records.
  6. Use your full legal name — no nicknames!
  7. Name on your application must match the name on your social security card.

Scholarship Timeline
Step 1: January – March

  • Portal opens on January 5

  • Application is due March 1
Step 2: March & April
  • Committees meet for scholarship recipient selection
Step 3: May & June

  • Scholarship recipients notified

  • Senior Award Ceremony

  • Acceptance due June 10
Step 4: July
  • Scholarship checks are mailed to schools on or before July 15

  • BAF Renewal applications due
  • BAF Scholarship application opens

March 1

  • BAF Scholarship applications are due (any application left in draft will not be reviewed)
  • Don’t forget to apply for the PROMISE Scholarship

May

  • Scholarship recipient announcement

May 30

  • Second semester transcripts due for renewals

June 10

  • Accept your award and confirm personal information and school choice (required before payments are made)

July 15

  • Checks will be mailed to the schools
