Clarence Tomlinson, better known as C. F., was a coal company store manager with a real concern for his fellow man. He died in 1975 leaving his estate to the Raleigh County Library, the Boy Scouts, and the Beckley-Raleigh County YMCA. Mr. Tomlinson’s bequest was the first substantial one for the ‘Y’. In recognition of his gift, the YMCA, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Thornhill III and Professional Realty Co. set up this fund in recognition of “C.F.” Tomlinson. In 1993, a significant bequest from the estate of George Warren Hodel, former Beckley Newspapers publisher, was added to this endowment which benefits our local YMCA. Annual income from this endowment has supported the YMCA since 1986.
