The Dr. Thomas Walker Memorial Health Foundation established this fund in 1997 honoring Thomas E. Smith and his wife Anna Marie Smith. Thomas was an accountant for the Walker Foundation for many years. Mr. Smith served as an accountant for BAF; he requested that the income be unrestricted and available for use as the Distributions Committee identified through the annual community grant process. Tom Smith died in September 2008. Anna Marie continues to be a generous supporter of BAF and to grow this fund in memory of her late husband. A life-long Beckley resident, he was a 1941 Woodrow Wilson HS graduate and earned a commercial science degree from National Business College in Roanoke, VA. A World War II veteran, Tom served in Company K, 413th Regent,104th Infantry Division in the European Theater. He was a Certified Public Accountant practicing in Beckley from 1963 to 2006. Prior to 1963 he was an IRS agent for 13 years.
