In 1992 St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church established the “Good Samaritan Fund” with a testamentary gift from Gladys Richards Nowlin of Beckley. Mrs. Nowlin was the wife of James P. Nowlin, a long-time member of the church. Income from this fund is distributed by St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church to the needy in the Beckley area. It is mindful of the Good Samaritan story told by Jesus in the 10th chapter in the Bible’s New Testament book of Luke.
