Martha Mae Sheffler left Beckley for California in 1943; after a long productive career as a teacher of English and world history, she died in 2002 in LaVerne, CA. She left a testamentary gift to BAF for the purpose of establishing a fund that would honor her family. Income from Miss Sheffler’s bequest will be divided equally between the Raleigh County Habitat for Humanity and the Citizens Scholarship Fund of Beckley.
