The late Mike Richmond, Leslie Syner-Hinzman and Josh Smith, volunteers with the Raleigh County Special Olympics program, initiated efforts to establish this fund in 2000 utilizing BAF’s ‘building over time’ option. Annual income is used to support programs and events of Raleigh County Special Olympics. Highland Cellular and Marz Attar stepped forward and provided generous funds to complete the endowment in 2005. The mission of Special Olympics West Virginia is to provide year-round sports training, and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-style sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities-giving them opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, and experience joy.
