Following his death in 1988, friends of the Mayor set up this fund in recognition of his successful efforts to bring beauty to downtown Beckley. Shoemaker Park, adjacent to the courthouse, focused attention on the planting of flowers and trees, and the construction of an outdoor fountain. Income is used for civic beautification projects in the City of Beckley.
