Ruby Carter established this unrestricted fund to provide income for distribution through BAF’s annual grant process. The endowment also honors her late husband Leslie R. Carter who initiated two additional funds at BAF and was responsible for countless other charitable donations. Mr. Carter was a Beckley businessman, banker and philanthropist. He also was administrator of the Carter Family Foundation. Ruby Webb Anderson Carter was an educator and taught public school for 41 years in Raleigh County, including 33 years at Institute Elementary. Both Leslie and Ruby were involved in numerous organizations. Ruby was a member of the First Baptist Church in Beckley for more than 70 years. Leslie also was a devoted member of that congregation for 74 years. Ruby died in 2006 and Leslie in 1995.
