James C. “Connie” and Millie Higgins, longtime residents of Beckley, their ten children, and their extended families established this fund to benefit the Beckley community. Birthdays, Christmas, Mother’s Day, and Father’s Day are occasions for making a donation to the Higgins Family Fund. This fund was initiated in 2005 utilizing BAF’s ‘building over time’ option allowing five years for the required $10,000 donation to be achieved. The donors directed that the fund income support the cost of presenting exhibitions of the performing arts (dance, music, drama) to the Raleigh County school children (grades K-12, inclusively), either by artistic school presentations, group sessions at selected sites or by ticket purchases for attendance to scheduled performances. James C. Higgins was a local attorney and past member of the BAF Board of Directors.
