This scholarship fund will provide need based scholarships for graduating seniors of any public high school located in Raleigh County. Recipients must have excelled in math and/or science in high school and plan to major in math or science as they continue their education. This endowment, originally established at Mountain State University, serves as a lasting memorial to Lanier File Ratcliffe and her husband Edwin. A Beckley native, Lanier graduated from WWHS and Randolph-Macon College with a degree in chemistry. She taught math, mostly at WWHS, for a total of 25 years. Edwin was an independent insurance agent from 1939 until he sold Beckley Insurance Agency in 1976. They had three children, Ann, Mary Claire and Edwin.
