Dr. Albert Updyke Tieche and Dr. John H. McCulloch purchased Beckley Hospital in the early 1920s from Dr. J. E. Coleman. After Dr. McCulloch’s death in 1939, Dr. Tieche continued to guide the hospital, became the President of the Bank of Raleigh, and was active in civic affairs until his death in 1964. This endowment fund provides scholarship assistance for area students enrolled in a health science field at the University of Charleston-Beckley.
