This fund was established in memory of Virginia Belle Smith Donaghue by her brother Thomas E. Smith; sister Ruth Smith Frye; Halena Hart Williams Smith, widow of her brother Mayo; and Virginia Counts Smith, widow of brother Kenley (Pete). Virginia graduated from the historic Raleigh General Hospital School of Nursing, which was a 3 year diploma school graduating registered nurses. Then she completed post-graduate work in surgical nursing at Johns Hopkins University. Income from the fund will be used to finance scholarships for Raleigh County students who are pursuing a nursing career.
