Charles S. Lewis, Jr, owner and founder of Lewis Chevrolet, was one of the ten original incorporators of the Beckley Area Foundation. Mr. Lewis passed away in 1987. In 1988, an endowment at BAF was created by his widow, Nancy Pat Lewis and Bank of Raleigh. Following Charlie’s death Nancy Pat became an involved owner and president of the many corporations that comprised the Lewis automotive Group, a Beckley landmark which started in 1937. This fund provides unrestricted income which is used to respond to grant proposals submitted in the annual community grant program.
