The Beckley Area Foundation is proud to announce the establishment of the Joy and Fred Hill Scholarship Fund, a new endowment designed to support local students in pursuing post-secondary education. This scholarship fund was made possible through the generous contribution of Joyce B. Hill, honoring the legacy of Joy and Fred Hill.

The scholarship will provide financial assistance to students graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley, West Virginia, who demonstrate financial need and maintain a GPA between 2.5 and 3.5. Recipients may use the award at accredited colleges, universities, vocational, or technical schools of their choice.

The Fund is intended to be an endowment, ensuring long-term support for students in Raleigh County. Scholarship awards will be renewable based on academic progress and good standing, up to the standard length required to complete a degree or certification program.

“Beckley was home to our family for many years, and it was a wonderful place to raise our children. Through Fred’s work as an educator and coach, and my own work as a social worker, we saw every day how much a caring community and a strong education can shape a young person’s life.  This scholarship is my way of honoring those values and giving back to a community that meant so much to our family,” said Joyce Hill, donor of the Joy and Fred Scholarship Fund.

The Beckley Area Foundation is committed to enriching the educational opportunities of students in the region and applauds the Hill family for their dedication to supporting the next generation of leaders.
