Kaplan Family Fund For Learning Disabilities in Southern West Virginia

This donor designated fund was established by Dr. Seth and LaRinda Kaplan in January 2021. The Kaplan Family does not call West Virginia home, however their connection to the area goes back to LaRinda’s grandmother. She stated, “My grandmother’s family is from the southern West Virginia area and the stories she shared with me of the area made us start our journey towards the Beckley Area Foundation.” Dyslexia training is near to the family’s heart because of their daughter, Olivia’s, dyslexia diagnosis. Annual fund distributions will be used to provide support to educators training for reading programs focusing on dyslexia methodologies. This fund will pay for training provided by Lindamood Bell in the LIPs, Seeing Stars, and Visualizing and Verbalizing reading programs, and the Marshal University H.E.L.P. Center reading program that focuses on children with dyslexia.
