An innovative gift of two classic cars served as the catalyst to start this endowment in 1999. Local businessman Chuck Lucas used the gift to establish an unrestricted fund in memory of his parents. Roy J. Lucas Sr. founded Lucas Tire in 1945. Roy and Polly had three children, Roy J. Lucas, Jr., now deceased, Van Lucas of Roanoke, VA, and Charles F. Lucas. This fund will augment BAF resources used in the annual grants application process which has benefited hundreds of Raleigh County charities.
