This fund was established by Lucy Bowers in memory of her husband K.D. Bowers, Sr. and her father T.R. Ragland, Sr.; the fund helps students pursue a law or mining career at West Virginia University. T.R. Ragland was a coal operator, served on the Board of Education and was active in St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church. He married Lucy Boyd Hutter. Karl Douglas Bowers graduated from WVU and came to Beckley to practice law. He was active in St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church and the Kiwanis Club, and served on the WVU Board of Governors. The Bowers Conference Room at WVU College of Law was named for him.
