The owners of Phillips Machine Service have always believed it is important to give back to the community where their business grew and prospered. They realized the value of creating permanent endowments that will forever generate income that responds to community needs whatever they may be. Brothers Jack and Jim Phillips opened this business June 1, 1976 in a two-bay garage in Glen Daniel, WV. Jack Phillips, one the owners, has served on the Foundation’s board as has Sherry Cushman, wife of owner Tom Cushman and Rennie Hill, their CFO. Dena Cushman, BAF’s financial officer, is the wife of Todd Cushman, coordinator of Phillips Machine’s International Inside Sales. The company was able to increase the impact of their gift as it was eligible for a challenge grant from the Carter Family Foundation. This grant opportunity was made as part of BAF’s 25th Anniversary Celebration.
