This unrestricted fund was established by Nancy and Charlie Connor who moved to Beckley from Charleston in 1981 when he became the publisher at the Beckley Newspapers. Both of the Connors were Marshall College (University) students and married one week after graduation. Charlie was one of 10 incorporators of the Beckley Area Foundation, a past BAF president, and its Executive Director from 1987 to 1994. Additionally, he was twice proclaimed a “Distinguished West Virginian,” received the Spirit of Beckley Award, served on the Marshall University Board of Advisors, and on the state Board of Regents.
