Pat Miser, sister of Judy Thomas, as well as friends, students and teaching associates joined together (in 2009) to raise money for a fund honoring the memory of this outstanding educator. Judy Thomas died in March 2009. Ms. Thomas became principal of Beckley- Stratton in December 2003 and was regarded as well-liked, fair and very professional by her colleagues. She worked in the Raleigh County school system for 31 years, serving at Park Jr. High, Maxwell Hill Elementary and Woodrow Wilson High School in addition to Beckley-Stratton. The annual fund income is distributed to Beckley-Stratton Middle School for the provision of student incentive and achievement awards.
