This fund was created in 2003 to recognize a special family role model and provide annual income to support the work of the American Red Cross in Raleigh County. Irene Richmond was born in Crow and was a member of the first graduating class of Shady Spring High School in 1925. She worked as a legal secretary and married Thomas Young. Irene was a 1986 recipient of the Distinguished West Virginian Award and recognized in 1992 by the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) for her outstanding community service. The Dr. Thomas Walker Memorial Health Foundation matched the initial gift starting the Fund.
