This fund was established in 1992 by Dr. and Mrs. R. C. Shah in honor of his mother, Kamala Laxmi Shah. She was born in India and migrated to Uganda, East Africa, at the age of 18, after her marriage. She was a resident of Uganda for 35 years before coming to the US in 1973. She resided in Beckley for 18 years. Originally donor advised, the fund income was directed to support her interests of poor children, childhood education, the animal and bird welfare, and domestic violence victims . Following Dr. Shah’s death in 2018, it became an unrestricted fund and is used to support non-profit agencies requesting support through the Foundation’s Community Grant Program.
