Carter Family Foundation Memorial Fund

In 1980, Leslie and Bernard Carter, their wives, Elizabeth M. Carter and Georgia M. Carter respectively, the brothers’ sister, Margaret A. Carter, established the Carter Family Foundation. The Carters were involved in Foundation activities until their deaths. This private foundation’s purpose is to provide college scholarships, support and grants for churches and colleges, social services, health services, charities and other programs. For additional information regarding the Carter Family Foundation reference book “The Carter Foundation A History” by Dan Page. The Carter Family established this endowment at BAF in 1988 and designated the annual income to benefit Alderson Broaddus College at Philippi and College of West Virginia at Beckley. As both of these collegiate institutions have ceased to exist the fund now benefits University of Charleston-Beckley.
