Jack ‘Gordie’ Roop initiated efforts to establish a fund honoring his grandfather Carl J. Hodges, still well remembered by family, friends, and area baseball fans. Other family members made contributions to this permanent memorial which was fully funded in June, 2005. Income from this endowment will be used for need-based college scholarships for a Raleigh County High School baseball player or softball player.
