This designated fund was initiated in 2009 utilizing BAF’s “Building over Time” option. It addresses the importance of reading to infants and toddlers as a building block in developing their reading readiness. Annual income from this fund is used to purchase age appropriate books and distribute to the mothers of newborns at Raleigh General Hospital (RGH). Ann Bays, former chair of Raleigh County Reading Council, Kathy Bailey, RGH patient educator, and Cynthia Bickey, donor coordinated the formation of this endowment. Pooling gifts from the Reading Council, RGH, Raleigh County Board of Education, public educators and individuals this fund was quickly built.
