The Webster County Community Fund has established the Sarah Beckstrom Memorial Fund, an endowed fund administered by the Beckley Area Foundation to honor the life, service, and legacy of U.S. Army Sgt. Sarah Beckstrom.
The fund was created following a desire within the community to establish a lasting tribute to Beckstrom and the values of service, resilience, and community support. Beckstrom’s service to her country and connection to the community are reflected in the fund’s purpose and the charitable work it will support for years to come.
Through the Sarah Beckstrom Memorial Fund, charitable resources will be available to support eligible nonprofit organizations, schools, municipalities, and public entities serving Webster County. The fund is intended to support projects and initiatives that strengthen the community and improve the quality of life for Webster County residents.
Preference will be given to initiatives supporting military families, veterans, youth leadership, civic engagement, and community-based support services. Grant recommendations will be made through the established Webster County Community Fund grant review process.
“Sarah was one of our own, and this fund gives our community a way to make sure her name, her service, and her sacrifice continue to mean something for generations to come. We can’t change what happened, but we can make certain Sarah is never forgotten. Through this fund, her legacy will continue to give back to the community she called home. That means more to us than I can put into words. Sarah served her country, and now her legacy will continue to serve her community,” said Jamie Ackerly, Chair of the Webster County Community Fund.
The Blue Star Mothers proposed the creation of the memorial fund in Beckstrom’s honor and will serve in an advisory and promotional capacity, helping raise awareness of the fund and its purpose within the community.
