This endowment recognizes the life and accomplishments of a prominent Raleigh County physician. Born in Putnam County, he graduated from WVU and the University of Pennsylvania Medical School. He served in the US Army Air Corps, Medical Division, and then worked as a surgeon at Raleigh General Hospital until his retirement in 1997. In 1948, he married Madalene Miller, a registered nurse and a graduate of the Raleigh General Hospital School of Nursing. She designated that the income from this fund benefit the local Salvation Army and a portion to be used to provide a scholarship for a Raleigh Co. high school graduate who is entering a nursing program or is already a nursing student. The Raleigh General Nurses Alumni Association made donations to the fund in support of the scholarship.
