This sub fund of the Trap Hill High School Alumni Association was established with a testamentary gift from estate of Ruby Pearl Clyburn. Ruby died on October 15, 2021, at the age of 95. Ruby began teaching math at Trap Hill High School on an Emergency Certificate, while returning to Concord for summer sessions. In July 1950, Ruby graduated with a bachelor’s degree in library science. She did graduate work at Marshall University, West Virginia Univer and College of Graduate Studies. Following graduation, she was able to fulfill her life’s desire of being the Trap Hill High School Librarian. A position she held from 1956 until Trap Hill High School closed in 1977. One of sixteen Raleigh County educators selected, she helped design the new Independence and Liberty high schools. She opened Liberty High as Librarian serving until her retirement in1989 after 42 years of teaching in Raleigh County. Her enthusiasm for Trap Hill High School Alumni Association earned her the designation as “Keeper of the Flame” for THHS and during the 2010 reunion she was crowned as the First Homecoming Queen of the Reunion.
