BAF was the beneficiary of an annuity and other testamentary gifts from the estate of Nancy J. Rickards who died in February 2012. Nancy was born with multiple birth defects and cerebral palsy. After multiple hospitalizations and surgeries, she completed high school and earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from West Virginia Wesleyan. Following a career which included employment in the Department of Social Services in Georgetown, Delaware, and as a social worker in Orthopedics and General Surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD, Nancy retired and purchased a home in Pineville, WV. Her experiences led to her interest in establishing this fund which generates income to help orthopedically challenged children and young adults in southern West Virginia. Recipients must have specific mobility problems.
