Hunter Cemetery Endowment Fund

Hunter Cemetery Endowment Fund

One of Beckley’s oldest cemeteries, Hunter Cemetery was established long before perpetual care plans were required. This cemetery is the resting place of numerous individuals who were leaders in the early development of our community. Rev. William H. Law, a retired educator and pastor, took on the task of restoring the property. He enlisted volunteer labor, donations of money and materials, and grants from BAF. On-going expenses for mowing and routine maintenance will always exist. In 2003, the Raleigh County Historical Society and the City of Beckley provided the initial gifts to start an endowment which generates income to help with these expenses. The East Beckley Beautification Committee/Heart of God Ministries, Muster Project, Citizens Conservation Corps, and the local NAACP have been instrumental in the maintenance of this historic cemetery.
