The Hindson Family Memorial Scholarship fund was started by J. Frank Hindson of Fayetteville and his uncles Thomas H. Hindson, George A. Hindson, to fund scholarships for graduates of Oak Hill High School or Fayetteville High School. In 2019 Fayetteville High School was merged into Oak Hill. Frank Hindson, who organized this family effort, wanted to recognize his father, John F. Hindson, Jr., and assist young people in Fayette County who need help with college costs. In his lifetime he gave up his own college education at WVU to come home to help provide for his siblings after his father died unexpectedly. Despite the obstacles before him he went on to work as a teacher, bookkeeper, manager, and entrepreneur. His selfless giving is what made him so special to all who knew him.
