Dr. A. Allen Bliss Memorial Fund

Dedee Bailey Bliss established this fund to honor her husband for his devotion to his patients, to his family, and to the Raleigh County Sheltered Workshop. After graduating from the University of Colorado with degrees in chemistry and psychology, he graduated from medical school with honors. Finishing an internship at Denver General, Dr. Bliss joined the US Air Force. He came to Beckley as the company physician for Armco Steel in Montcoal and later opened a private family practice in Beckley. He was a staff member at Raleigh General hospital where, among his other services, he delivered over 7,000 babies. This 2001 endowment will generate income for the Sheltered Workshop, now named the Lillian James Learning Center, to help children and young adults with disabilities become productive citizens.
