The Beckley Area Foundation is proud to announce the establishment of the Lyndia Sparacino Nursing Scholarship Fund, a new endowed scholarship established by Wendy Openlander to honor the life, legacy, and compassionate spirit of Lyndia Sparacino by investing in future nurses across West Virginia.
Created as a lasting tribute, the Lyndia Sparacino Nursing Scholarship Fund reflects a commitment to supporting students who have chosen to pursue one of the nation’s most essential and compassionate professions. Through this endowed scholarship, future nurses will receive financial assistance as they prepare to make meaningful contributions to the health and well-being of communities across West Virginia.
Nurses play a vital role in every community, providing skilled medical care, compassion, advocacy, and comfort to patients and their families. By helping students overcome financial barriers to higher education, the Lyndia Sparacino Nursing Scholarship Fund seeks to encourage dedicated individuals to pursue careers in nursing while ensuring Lyndia’s legacy continues to inspire service, excellence, and compassion for generations to come.
The scholarship is available to graduating seniors of Woodrow Wilson High School, or its successor school, who have earned a minimum 3.0 grade point average and plan to enroll in an accredited two- or four-year nursing program at a college or university in West Virginia. The scholarship is merit-based and recognizes students who have demonstrated academic achievement and a commitment to pursuing a career in nursing. Scholarship awards are nonrenewable.
