Freda Soter established this discretionary fund in memory of her sister Sula. Sula was born at Mount Hope, WV in 1929 to the late Athas and Helen Karakasis Soter. She was a retired employee of Verizon as a supervisor and was a member of the St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Beckley. Every year BAF receives additional worthwhile requests in its annual community grant program; it is necessary for donors to realize the importance of creating pools of unrestricted funds that can answer the needs of our community as they change over time. Fred and Sula were both educators; they have been devoted to their community. This is a fitting permanent memorial that was created for good, forever. Sula passed away in 2005 and the fund was established in 2009.
