Mary Jane Roberts died in 2007; she was 22 days shy of being 98 years old. Born at Speedway, near Athens, she was the daughter of John K. and Ollie Pettry Craighead. Mrs. Roberts was preceded in death by both her husband James Evin Roberts and her only child, Shirley Anne Fridley. Mary Jane was a dedicated homemaker and a faithful member of the Church of God Family Worship Center. A very independent and generous individual Mary Jane left testamentary gifts to a number of charitable organizations. Her gift to Beckley Area Foundation established this permanent unrestricted endowment. The income will be used to respond to proposals submitted to the Beckley Area Foundation Annual Community Grant Program.
