Mr. Turner was employed at Beckley National Bank, now Chase, for 46 years, retiring as Vice President and serving on their Board of Directors from 1972 until his death in 1990. His wife Maud Ryan Turner established this fund in her will. Their daughter Carole Ann Turner directed that income be provided for Raleigh County high school graduates for a college scholarship. Additionally, she left a large testamentary gift to the scholarship following her death in July 2009.
