Established in 2024 with a testamentary gift from Stephen Edward Collins this fund benefits Shady Spring High School students and serves as a permanent memorial to his parents John Maynard and Anna Margaret Maddy Collins. Both Mr. and Mrs. Collins were Raleigh County educators who taught a number of years at SSHS. Stephen was a VPI & SU (VA Tech) graduate and received his master’s from Wayne State University. Serving 20 years in the United States Air Force he retired as a major. One individual commented following his death, “Never saying anything bad about someone…he was giving and caring, a true man of faith. Leading by example.” Criteria eligibility for SSHS graduating students matriculating to an accredited college/university, vocational or technical school. The student is not limited to attendance at a specific institution or to a field of study.
