The Humane Society of Raleigh Co. receives income from this endowment. Established in 1986 by his widow, Nancy, and since augmented by additional gifts, it honors a man who founded the City of Beckley’s first radio station, WJLS; owned and operated Biggs-Johnston-Withrow and Royal Oak Press; served as President of the WV Broadcasters Assoc.; and was a board member of Beckley National Bank. He was a decorated World War II veteran and served on the staff of General Omar Bradley. As with all BAF funds additional contributions received to these funds are not spent; only the annual income earned is distributed.
