A collaborative effort of a number of local baseball enthusiasts resulted in the formation of this permanent endowment in 2010 honoring Claude “Sarge” Maynard, longtime supporter of the Babe Ruth program. The local Babe Ruth League offers boys between ages of 12 to 15 the opportunity to play ball outside of school. This is an age group that traditionally has few organized recreational choices. “Sarge” volunteered his time, talent and enthusiasm for baseball in order that the Beckley program could grow and prosper. One individual stated that “Sarge” made every kid feel important. He passed away in October 2017.
