Constance and Barry Woods established this fund in memory of his father, Jay Warren Woods, and as a living tribute to his mother, Blanche Woods Ashworth. Jay was born in Martins Ferry Ohio, the son of Dr. Roy R. and Viola Woods. Blanche is a Raleigh County native, the youngest child born to Andrew B. and Sara Elizabeth Clay. They met and married while attending Marshall. Jay was an accomplished trombonist and played professionally before, during and after college. When the couple moved to Beckley, they opened the State Adjustment and Medical-Dental-Hospital Bureau of Beckley, a business which operated successfully from offices in the Raleigh County Bank building for 59 years. Both Jay and Blanche were active in the community. Twenty-one years after Jay’s death, Blanche married retired Beckley Circuit Court Judge Robert J. Ashworth. Music has always been an integral part of the Woods’ lives, and the funds distributed from this donor-advised fund will go toward developing the arts, particularly music, in the Beckley-Raleigh County area. Blanche Woods Ashworth passed away in October 2008. Barry C. Woods passed away in 2018.
