exists to inspire and facilitate generous charitable giving that advances our community.
Inspired by the sacrifices his parents made to support his own education, Dwight Wilcox established a new scholarship fund to help future Raleigh County students pursue engineering at Virginia Tech.
The Beckley Area Foundation (BAF) was founded in 1985 with a gift from the Dr. Thomas Walker Memorial Health Foundation and has grown into one of West Virginia’s largest community foundations. Today, BAF manages more than 500 permanently endowed funds and over $80 million in assets, distributing only the income so that support for community continues forever. Since its founding, the foundation has awarded more than $23 million in grants and scholarships, supporting education, health and human services, public recreation, the arts, animal welfare, and community beautification across southern West Virginia.
BAF’s mission is to inspire and facilitate generous giving that advances our community. Guided by transparency, stewardship, and collaboration, BAF connects donors with local needs and helps make a lasting difference in the community.
